Innovation & Voice: How Sustainability Students are Making a Difference
Over the last 2 years, CBMS students have been using innovative ideas and leadership skills to run a small business out of their classroom. What started with selling eggs to teachers, has grown to the development of five products with online sales and shipping across the country! Students were inspired by the Global Goals for Sustainable Development and now choose where profits will be donated to support community organizations in need. Hear their story and learn how to infuse authentic experiences into your own classroom to engage all kinds of learners to make a difference.

Bridging the Gap
When given the opportunity to thrive, we, as librarians, are teaching students information-literacy skills, promoting a love of reading and enhancing literacy, integrating technology into the curriculum, facilitating inquiry-based learning, helping teachers grow professionally, fostering creativity and imagination, collaborating on lessons and units, teaching our own classes, and managing our schools’ print and digital information collections. Join a panel of school librarians for a conversation about advocacy, best practices, and real implementation.

EXTENDED SESSION: Advocacy Bootcamp- "Who needs libraries?"
"Who needs libraries?" Beneath those three words is an iceberg of challenges, from delivering on-point messaging, gathering compelling statistics, and the need to re-educate key audiences on the value of libraries. Advocacy & Intellectual Freedom Bootcamp urges attendees to re-think advocacy: to re-define the library community and expand the way we have been advocating for libraries. The program will cover advocacy basics such as messaging, networking and community engagement. Attendees will develop actionable steps that they can implement in their library. This is a joint effort of ALA's Office for Library Advocacy and the Office for Intellectual Freedom.
